About Rishikesh :

Rishikesh is one of the sacred places of India and the initial point of the holy Char Dham pilgrimage. Rishikesh is stiuated in the foothills of the Himalayas. Rishikesh represents the Gateway to the Himalayas and abounds in natural splendor. The display of the Ganga speeding up through the Himalayan foothills is a wonderful sight at Rishikesh. Several temples dot the banks of the Ganga at Rishikesh. Rishikesh is placed at a height of about 1360 feet above sea level. It is believed that various yogis and sages lived and practiced penance here. According to mythology Rishikesh represents the site where Vishnu vanquished the demon Madhu.

The freshness of the air and sound of flowing water, the charming beauty of the place and the distant echo of bell chimes create an extraordinary experience for those who visit Rishikesh. Rishikesh be a magnet for thousands of pilgrims and tourists each year, from India as well as from abroad. The city has various Yoga and meditation centers that also attract tourists. As per to the tradition meditation in Rishikesh brings one closer to attainment of salvation or "moksha". In recent times Rishikesh is fast becoming a favorite spot for white water rafting enthusiasts, as it offers medium to rough rapids in the course of river Ganges.

Rishikesh is famous for Lakshman Jhula; a 450 feet long suspension bridge was constructed in 1939. A newer bridge the Ram Jhula has been added recently. The Ganga is plentiful in fish. Contributions of puffed rice are made to these creatures.
