About Gangtok :

The capital of Sikkim, is a unique hill resort of northeast India and undoubtedly one of the most oft-visited ones. The present capital was shifted from Tumlong in 1894 by Chogyal Thutob Namgyal and is today the centre for political, commercial, religious and cultural activities of the Sikkimese people. Gangtok provides the tourists all modern amenities for pleasure and comfort. There are a good number of luxurious and moderate hotels including modern shopping complexes, cyber cafes etc.

Officially the population of Gangtok is around 50,000 but in fact the number is at least double that figure. The principle language in Gangtok as in other parts of the region is Nepali. But Hindi, English, Bengali and Tibetan are also spoken and understood by a large part of the population. The town covers an area of approximately 25 square kilometer.

How to reach

Air: The nearest airport is at Bagdogra, which is about 124 km away.Indian Airlines and Jet Airways have direct flights from Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati.

Rail: The nearest railway stations are at Siliguri 124 km away and New Jalpaiguri at about 120 km. New Jalpaiguri is directly connected by rail to all important towns and cities in India.

Road: Gangtok is well connected by a network of roads with all important cities and towns.
